Coach Joseph Hanson grew up in Bradenton, FL, and played football and wrestled at Manatee High School. He placed 4th in state competition and continued his wrestling career at Indiana University. Due to a family illness, he left college early and joined Marines. Joe served in the USMC’s Elite Reconnaissance Units. After serving he left Marines to take care of orphaned family members and worked in corrections for the next few years. Later while pursuing a degree in criminal justice at FSU, an FSU assistant strength coach challenged him to help some of their kids before they wound up in jail or worse.
